CLASSES - SATURDAY MAIN SCHOOL (7 – 18 YR OLDS)

The main school runs on Saturday mornings throughout term time.  We also run theatre workshops during selective school holidays. For more information about our workshops, please follow this link to go to our workshops page.

Children and young adults aged between 7 and 18 learn the fundamental skills of performing across the genres of DANCE, STAGE DRAMA and FILM/TV, whilst being encouraged to have as much input into productions as possible.  Back stage skills and prop work are all part and parcel of the learning experience at Razzle Dazzle, which all combined go towards developing self confidence, communication skills and self esteem - those important life skills that are highly emphasised today.

The school holds shows at least twice a year.  One large scale full school production will be in a professional theatre if possible, and other performances during the year are individually group based with each group performing a different play, songs and dances, thereby giving all students the opportunity to have a speaking part and vocal performance if they wish, as well as enjoying a wide variety of dances.  Smaller productions give a much greater opportunity for personal development and the students’ love to show the other groups and parents their work!  Performing within the community is very much encouraged and students regularly take part in local events.

Students wishing to progress further with exams are encouraged, and we offer the ability to work towards exams in all three genres of acting, singing and dancing.  For those that find the idea of exams unappealing, this is entirely optional.

We aim to stimulate imagination and creativity but
most of all we want the children to have fun!

Saturday 10:15am – 1:15pm
Tiptree Community Centre, 1a Caxton Close, Tiptree. CO5 0HA

See below for fees and payment terms

During each of these sessions the children will be divided into
groups apropriate to age and ability:

Each group will receive equal tuition in the following areas:

DANCE

We aim to offer a style of dance that is a combination of street, jazz and modern skills put with a wide ranging selection of music.  A physical warm up will always be included as well as a technical element teaching the children specific dance steps relevant to the work they are doing.

They will be dancing to songs from hit musicals as well as current chart hits.

ACTING FOR THE STAGE

These classes aim to cover as many genres as possible including mime, comedy, farce, monologues and duologues as well as being able to take on a character within a bigger production.  We teach the children the difference between acting for the theatrical stage and acting for TV and film.

Students work towards one whole school production a year which is of the musical theatre genre.  Each of the three classes also presents at least one other play a year and songs and dances they will have worked on during that time.  This offers the students the opportunity to take on larger roles within their own age range group.

PERFORMING FOR TV and FILM

Our most recent addition to the curriculum, and unsurprisingly our most popular! These classes reinforce the difference between acting for the theatrical stage and acting for TV and film by making short films, commercials and interviews. The syllabus covers shot types, camera angles, moving shots, storyboarding, scriptwriting, interviewing technique, terminology, basic lighting and sound skills.

Students work on a short presentation of their work throughout the year.

Microphone technique is also taught appropriate to the different themes they may be working on. This will include audio only recordings such as short radio plays, song performances, how to make and record different sound effects amongst other things.

The possibilities are endless!

SINGING

A good selection of songs will be covered from the musical theatre through to current chart hits and everything in between! The children will be taught how to look after their voices and good practice technique as well as developing group and individual solo skills.

We work on vocal projection skills together with building confidence, so that the children are able to work more effectively with backing tracks or a piano only.

The lessons will always include vocal warm ups which they will be given copies of to use at home as well as any other music used during the term whenever possible.  The lessons will also always include a focus on a particular technique.

EXAMS

Exam progression can be pursued in all three disciplines of DANCE, DRAMA and SINGING at Razzle Dazzle Stage School and is entirely optional.

Drama exams are available to all students aged 5 and over as part of our normal teaching*.  These are offered at certain times of the year and follow the LAMDA syllabus. Main School students who decide to enter for the LAMDA exams enjoy one to one tuition at certain times throughout term time to prepare for LAMDA exams**.

Dance and singing exams are worked towards in additional classes.

The dance exam classes follow the ISTD dance syllabus.

The singing exam classes follow either the Trinity/LAMDA in musical theatre or the Trinity college of London in pop singing (Rockschool) syllabus.

Please refer to exam classes page for times and costs of the exams classes.

*not including costs of exam fees.

**Preparation for LAMDA up to Enrty Level is part of normal Saturday main classes. For students of LAMDA Entry Level ability and above, separate LAMDA exam classes can be taken.
